I want to make your experience easy and stress-free. These are all the commonly asked questions I get regarding your session or how I work. Hopefully I can answer all your questions before you even have to ask!
What even is photojournalism photography?
Exactly as the name suggests, it is documenting real life. Some call it “fly on the wall” photography, I call it visual storytelling – documenting your family’s everyday life. Instead of posing in random fields, you can enjoy a session in the comfort of your home or a place that’s special to you and your family with absolutely zero direction or posing. You can be confident in being yourself and I’ll document everything from traditions, routines, tantrums, and everything else in between, as is, with no interruption.
Why are these sessions so long?
Every family is different but for most, it takes awhile to warm up to somebody new. I allow enough time for you and your family to forget I’m there. The longer the session, the more natural photos I capture because you’ll be less camera aware over time.
Do we get any posed photos?
I understand this is a different session type than most offer but I don’t take any posed photos. The goal is to create a documentary of you and your family’s lives. If you’re more interested in the pose aspect and want more traditional photographs, I would recommend looking for a lifestyle photographer instead.
So we don’t get any posed photos at all?
If you’d like a few posed shots for grandma I don’t mind taking a couple while I’m there! The session is 99% documentary otherwise.
What should we wear?
Whatever you want! You shouldn’t do anything special just because I’m there. Wear whatever you feel comfortable in the most. If you wear pajamas until 4pm, wear pajamas! I always suggest having the kids dress themselves.
What should we do? Do we have to plan anything?
If it’s part of your normal routine, sure! You don’t have to do anything specific unless you want to. The majority of sessions is just hanging out and documenting your family being your usual selves but if you want something different, I have a session suggestion guide of activities – message me for more information! Previous sessions have been at the zoo, beach, park, or anywhere else your family enjoys visiting.
How many photos do we get?
It depends on how long I’m around but on average, you can expect between 30-50 edited images per hour.
Our daily life isn’t anything special, will you still find anything to shoot? I don’t know if our life is worth documenting.
I love showing families this isn’t true! There’s magical moments in your life every day and it’s my job to find them.
If something looks bad, do you Photoshop?
Nope! I edit lightly and refrain from using any Photoshop.
I have older kids, does this still work?
Of course! This works with kids of all ages.
Are you allergic to pets? Can they be part of the session, too?
Nope! I love pets and have 3 of my own. Pets are part of the family as well and I’d love for them to be part of your session!
How long does it take to receive our edited gallery?
I can understand being excited to see your images – I always am too! Sometimes I can get to them right away but other times it can take a little longer. Expect up to 4 weeks for delivery.
Do we get the RAW files, too?
A photo isn’t complete until it’s been edited and editing the RAW files is part of the artistic process. No RAWS or un-edited photos will be shared because of that.
Do you do shoots outside the PNW?
Of course! I’m always happy to make a trip. In addition to my normal fee, I would also require airfare, a ride to/from the airport and some kind of accommodation. Travel is currently only available for day in the life sessions. If you’re interested, message me for more information.
Do we have to feed you?
If it’s a day in the life session, some food would be appreciated but it’s not necessary. I’m not picky or allergic to anything so I’m happy to eat whatever you plan on cooking for your family. If you prefer not to share, that’s okay, too! I always carry snacks with me. I’ll always graciously accept a cup of coffee or tea though.
Can I upload my photos on social media?
Please do! If you plan on sharing on any social media, I just ask that you tag me (@kelseygraham.co) or link back to my website.
Can we bring props to use?
Documentary sessions do not involve traditional props you might be used to. I do however welcome bubbles or favorite toys!
Our house is always messy, do we need a clean home?
With kids, it’s expected that your house is messy. I don’t mind the clutter, in fact, I encourage it! Please don’t overdue it just because I’m planning on visiting. I can work under any circumstance.
Can we bring you along on family vacations?
Absolutely! Whether your vacations are in-state or out-of-state, I offer additional discounts when you book multiple days.
Can we hire you for holidays?
Yes! I’ve done sessions for Halloween, Christmas, and St. Patrick’s Day. I’m open to doing other holidays as well so if this something you’re interested in doing, please message me!
What if my child(ren) doesn’t behave?
Tantrums are normal, especially with children. If your child(ren) is acting fussy, please react as you normally do when I’m not there.
What’s your editing style?
I edit as naturally as possible while making every day colors pop out. I don’t do any heavy edits such as removing objects from the background, waistlines, or wrinkles.
I’m not comfortable sharing a specific photo online.
This is okay! I 100% respect your privacy. If there’s a photo I happen to take that you prefer I keep private, I would be happy to respect your wishes. Prior to the session, we’ll go over what you’re okay and not okay with my photographing to go over boundaries. I operate on an open door policy; if the door is open, I assume it’s okay to enter, if it’s closed, I respect your privacy and find something else to photograph. You being comfortable is my #1 priority so please let me know if you prefer certain photos be kept private.
What is an order and reveal?
Every session comes with a complimentary order and reveal session where we meet in your home once your gallery is finished. We’ll go over what your package includes (albums and prints) and decide which photos you want. If you choose to forego the order and reveal, I have an online gallery where you can choose everything yourself on your own time.
Do you accept payment plans?
A session fee of $249 is due at signing, which goes towards your overall balance. The remaining balance is due before your session. If you need more time, I can work with you and your family on a flexible payment plan. I want you to have photos you love, don’t be shy! I’m extremely flexible.
What if I have to cancel/reschedule?
I understand life happens! If you need to reschedule or cancel, I only ask for a 48 hour notice. If you need to cancel, you’ll get everything back minus the session fee.
Do I get a print release?
Yes! If you wish to not print through me, you’re free to print at your favorite print shops. All photos will be delivered watermark free.
What forms of payments do you accept?
I accept cash, check, or Paypal.
My question wasn’t answered.
I try to answer as many questions as I can but sometimes I can’t answer all of them. If you still have a question, please message me and I’ll be happy to answer!
